Closing of the Student Health Center

Due to the relocation of the Drs. William and Kim Cook Student Health Center to a mobile unit in the Pacelli parking lot during the renovation of Murphy Hall, the center will be closed Monday, May 20, through Monday, June 3. The health center will reopen Tuesday, June 4, in the medical mobile unit, Pacelli parking lot.

Auxiliary Drive closing – effective Friday, May 17

Pacelli Lot closing

The Pacelli Lot and Service Drive will be closed to all vehicles on Monday, May 20, 2013, to allow for the delivery of the 24’-0” x 80’-0” mobile unit to be used by Health Services during the renovation of Murphy Hall. Based on the size of the mobile unit, parking in the Pacelli lot will not be possible from Monday May 20, 2013, through August 2014.

Water shutoff

On Monday, May 20, the Cleveland Water Department will shut off water to the Dolan Science Center, Campion Hall, and Shula Stadium for approximately one hour each between 8 a.m. and noon for meter upgrade work. The Water Department schedules blocks of four hours for their work, and the exact time of each shutdown is not known.

Personal and professional development opportunity

As a member of Catholic Community Connections, John Carroll once again has an opportunity to offer personal and professional development. Along with Notre Dame College and Ursuline College we are sponsoring a Faculty and Staff Development program to be held Thursday, June 6, and Friday, June 7, at Ursuline College. The program is from the “Abundant Life” organization. For more details about the two-day schedule access the invitation here.

The Mission of Abundant Life is to foster wellness through care for the body, mind, and spirit, and provides education and support in practical methods of whole person care. It is based on the philosophy that every person is an inseparable unity of body, mind, and spirit, and that care for the whole person contributes to wellbeing and fuller, more meaningful life. More information on Abundant Life can be found here on the organization’s website.

The objectives of this development program are:

Wellness through human dignity and wholeness.
The connection between dimensions of wellness.
Good communication skills for healthy relationships.
Spiritual wellness.
Wellness practices.

Registration will be limited to the first 35 employees to register. This program is sponsored by the University and eligible for Mission Leave paid time off.

Non-faculty will be required to confirm their supervisor’s approval to attend as part of the registration. Although the invitation asks for registration through Abundant Life, all interested JCU employees must register through this John Carroll link. We will forward all registrations the Abundant Life group.

Human Resources will notify all who register and confirm attendance, time and location for the first 35 employees that respond.

New: Flextime and Mission Leave Policies

The policies on Mission Leave and Flextime are now official as of May 1, 2013. The new flextime policy now supersedes the prior summer hours and flextime policies. Request for flextime and mission leave should be made in accordance with the new policies. See our polices website for access to the policies and detail. These policies will be reviewed on a regular basis to ensure they continue to meet the needs of the University and employees.

The pool locker rooms will be closed on Thursday, May 9, through Sunday, May 12, for pool locker renovations and painting.

If you have a lock on any locker in these locker rooms, you must remove it (and clean out the locker) prior to closing of the locker
rooms.

Please use the general locker rooms on the lower level of the RecPlex, across from Campus Safety, for your convenience.

Einstein Bros Bagels – 7:30 a.m.-2 p.m.

Einstein Bros Bagels will be open in the summer. Starting May 13, Einsteins will be open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-2 p.m.

More than $1,000 donated to Wounded Warrior Project!

John Carroll Community,

On behalf of the JCU Veterans Club, we would like to send out our thanks and gratitude to everyone who donated to our Spring Bar B Que fundraiser on May 2. With the help of the students, staff, and the John Carroll community in general, we were able to raise more than $1,000 to donate to the Wounded Warrior Project. Those funds will go to ensuring a better life for veterans who suffered life altering injuries in combat defending our nation. Needless to say the day was a tremendous success and could not have been so without your help.

Last call: Technology Drive for Jamaica

Please support the spread of technology and education! The John Carroll immersion trip to Jamaica is looking to bring donations of technology items when they travel to Petersfield, Jamaica, this month. The Association of Clubs, their partner organization in Jamaica, is actively seeking donations of laptops, thumb drives, digital cameras, and software. Due to wear and tear, they are down to only three computers at the center. During summer camp, this might mean that 100 children have to share only three computers, rendering any computer literacy programs impossible.

Please bring all donations to the Campus Ministry office anytime between now and May 10. Any support you can provide is appreciated, thank you in advance! Contact blazarchik15@jcu.edu with any questions.
