The Bohannon Project:
This summer, the Hamlin Quad is being enhanced to support more student activity, and provide additional parking on the Bohannon footprint. This three-phase project began at the end of June and is scheduled to be complete by early November. As part of the project, we are:
A construction area has been established from the Dolan Science Center East Lot to Administration Drive. It runs from Main Drive across Hamlin Quad to the sidewalk in front of Grasselli Library. A construction entrance is located on Carroll Boulevard, west of the Bohannon site. Drivers should proceed cautiously as they travel along portions of Main Drive that border the construction site.
Campus Access August 22 – end of the project:
Beginning Monday, August 22, 2011, Main Drive was re-opened to permit normal pre-construction traffic through campus. The construction fence runs parallel to Main Drive, adjacent to the former Bohannon site. Campus entrances will observe the academic year schedule beginning Monday, August 29, 2011, with the North Park gate open from 7 a.m.–11 p.m. and the South Belvoir entrance closed from 9 a.m.–10 p.m.
The new Bohannon surface lot is expected to open on or about October 7, 2011. At that time, the portion of Main Drive adjacent to the lot will be temporarily closed for additional work and paving. Traffic flow will be maintained through the new lot.
Administration Drive will remain open through October 23, 2011. Administration Drive will be closed for a brief period before the end of the project to complete the tie-in with the new surface lot and newly paved Main Drive.
The sidewalk in front of the library, from Administration Drive to the Dolan Center, remains open for the duration of the project.
As with last year’s removal of the temporary lot, planning for campus parking is required. For the fall, some residential junior and senior parking is moving to Target and the shuttle route has been adjusted. Ample parking should be available during the construction process; however, the Target lot and shuttle will also be available to FSA’s and visitors, if unanticipated situations arise. The new Bohannon surface lot will open on or about October 7, 2011 and will provide 334 parking spaces.
Please be sure your parking pass is up to date. As last year, all parking policies will be strictly enforced once classes begin on August 29, 2011.
Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions or concerns. Our thanks to the generous supporters of the University who have made these enhancements possible. Also, thank you for your patience as we make these improvements that will benefit the entire campus community.
