World class entertainment: The Soweto Street Beat Dance Theater

The Center for Student Diversity and Inclusion invites you to an exploration of cultural differences and celebration of diversity. Through guest speakers and performers, the Dr. Shirley S. Seaton Cultural Awareness Series illuminates various cultural perspectives to help sharpen an understanding of the ways in which we are all interconnected.

Our first guests performers are The Soweto Street Beat Dance Theater Inc. (SSB): the only professional South African dance troupe in the United States. SSB began in 1989 in Soweto and relocated to Atlanta in 1992, with a mission to teach audiences of all ages and cultural backgrounds about the cultural arts and history of South Africa.

The performance will take place Thursday, September 8, at 7 p.m. in Kulas Auditorium. Admission is free.

Some of SSB’s appearances include the 1996 Olympic Festival, the Coca Cola World Cultural Festival, Jimmy Carter’s The Atlanta Project (with Michael Jackson), and their annual performances at Walt Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
