John Carroll presents award-winning poet Naomi Shihab Nye on Tuesday, September 13, 2011. Nye will share her poetry at 7 p.m. in the Donahue Auditorium of the Dolan Center for Science and Technology. The event is free and open to the public.
She describers herself as a “wandering poet.” Considered one of the strongest and clearest voices of peace that emerged from the Arab American community in those dark days of 2001, she has spent 37 years traveling the country and the world to lead writing workshops and inspire students of all ages.
Nye was born to a Palestinian father and an American mother and grew up in St. Louis, Jerusalem, and San Antonio. Drawing on her Palestinian-American heritage, the cultural diversity of her home in Texas, and her experiences traveling in Asia, Europe, Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, and the Middle East, Nye uses her writing to attest to our shared humanity.
