As previously announced, there will be a “community meeting” on Friday, January 20, 2012, from 3-5 p.m. in Donahue Auditorium to share the work of the University Planning Group. The UPG has been developing specific institutional goals to implement our Strategic Initiatives and thus significantly advance John Carroll.
Like a town hall, the community meeting is open to all faculty, staff, and administrators. University offices will remain open during this time, so we understand that not everyone will be able to be present. Nevertheless we encourage the attendance of all who are able to come.
Rev. Niehoff, S.J., charged the UPG to identify goals that were reasonable and could be accomplished in the next three to five years. For the last 18 months, the UPG has engaged in monthly discussions to explore the fundamental issues of academic excellence, fiscal responsibility, mission and identity, the student experience, and institutional presence. We drafted a series of proposed actions, critiqued and refined our ideas, and organized them as goals and objectives under the existing University Strategic Initiatives. These initiatives follow from the University’s statements on Mission, Vision, and Core Values, a link to which can be found here.
The meeting on January 20 will begin with a plenary session and then move into small group discussions. It represents an important opportunity for all of the members of the University community to have input into the goals and action steps that the UPG has developed to help realize our Strategic Initiatives. That input, as well as the feedback from focused meetings held in February, will enable the UPG to finalize a set of institutional goals and send them to the Academic Affairs & Planning Committee of the Board of Directors in March.
