Today: JCU’s Take Back the Night organizing meeting

Come to the first Take Back the Night organizing meeting and help plan this important event! The meeting will take place Thursday, January 26, at 5:30 p.m. in the O’Malley Center Lounge.

Mark your calendars! John Carroll’s Take Back the Night Week 2012 is from April 23-April 26, 2012. Take Back the Night Week consists of a series of educational and political events designed to raise awareness about sexual assault and domestic abuse in our communities. The week’s main event is the Take Back the Night Rally, March, and Speak Out, which always takes place on Thursday night. On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday students offer a variety of events that relate to the week’s theme including guest speakers, film showings, art therapy, self-defense workshops, peer education presentations, T-shirt sales, and a survivor celebration.

Take Back the Night Week provides the John Carroll community with an opportunity to speak out against all forms of sexualized violence. The goals of this event are to foster an environment of support and healing wherein survivors are empowered to express their experiences, to raise awareness of the ways sexualized violence is used to perpetuate racism, sexism, and other forms of oppression, and to build a network of individuals committed to creating a community free of sexualized violence. Take Back the Night is designed, initiated, and organized by John Carroll students.
