Summer Pilgrimage 2013: The Loyola Experience (June 12 to 22, 2013) in celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the Ignatian Spirituality Institute
Join Rev. Brian McDermott, S.J.; Joan Nuth, Ph.D; and Thomas A. Kane, CSP, for a special retreat-pilgrimage as we trace the life and spirituality of Saint Ignatius Loyola in Spain. We will begin in Bilbao with a visit to the Guggenheim Museum and continue to the town of Azpeitia for a three day retreat near the Sanctuary of Loyola. We will have retreat talks on the life of Ignatius of Loyola and special prayer opportunities at various pilgrimage sites nearby. We will then journey to Aranzazu where Ignatius prayed to the Virgin, then on to Javier, the birthplace of Saint Francis Xavier. We will enjoy some time at the lofty Benedictine monastery of Montserrat and the next day we will remember “The Pilgrim” at the cave of Manresa where Ignatius wrote the Spiritual Exercises. We will conclude our pilgrimage in Barcelona with a festive Eucharist and special sightseeing program around the city.
As you read the brochures, you will notice that this is not a packaged tour. The pilgrimage is designed for those who want more than just touring and desire to refresh themselves spiritually through the journey.
