Participate in the Intergroup Dialogue this fall! Intergroup dialogues are face-to-face meetings between members of at least two different social identity groups and should provide an opportunity for open and honest conversation about race, religion, ethnicity, social class, sexual orientation, and/or gender depending on the composition of the group. The Diversity Steering Committee is organizing this dialogue with the expectation that these conversations will strengthen our commitment to fostering an inclusive and welcoming campus climate at JCU.
Facilitated by Donna Byrnes (associate dean of students) and Lauren Bowen (associate academic vice president), this dialogue will be from 2-3:15 p.m. on the following six Mondays: Sept. 23, Oct. 7, Oct. 21, Nov. 4, Nov. 18, and Dec. 9. We are looking for 18-20 faculty, staff, and administrators willing to explore issues of identity as they relate to one’s understanding of self, areas of difference with others, connections to others, and how to build alliances as well as engage in social action. Please let Marianne Cicirelli (firstname.lastname@example.org) know if you would like to participate in the dialogue by Monday, Sept. 16.
