The Department of Education and Allied Studies is now seeking applications for the J. Joseph Whelan Award for Leadership in Service and the Father Owens Award. Both applications are available on the Department of Education website. Please note that the deadline to apply for these awards is now Friday, March 14, 2014.

Rev. Joseph Owens, S.J. Scholarship Award
This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding junior education student who best exemplifies the values of scholarship, leadership, and service that Rev. Joseph Owens, S.J., championed during his tenure in the department. Rev. Owens was a member of the Department of Education from its founding in 1935 to his retirement in 1987. He was instrumental in building teacher education at John Carroll University into one of the Ohio’s premier professional programs.
J. Joseph Whelan Award for Leadership in Service
This award recognizes a graduating senior in the Department of Education and Allied Studies whose life is a reflection of the Jesuit mission and who has distinguished him or herself as a person for others and a leader in service. J. Joseph Whelan is a 1965 graduate of John Carroll University and a role model for the Jesuit mission of leadership in service. Joe Whelan has been an active example of a leader in service within his life, community, and profession. He believes that each of our graduates should embrace this mission of service throughout their lives and within their professions.
