The Department of Education and Allied Studies presents a Roundtable Discussion with two Educator Alumni Award Winners, Chad Miller, Ph.D., ’00 and Maryann Mraz, Ph.D., ’85, ’89G, on Thursday, May 1, from 4-5 p.m. in Rodman A. Come learn how their education at Carroll lead them to become outstanding educators.
Dr. Miller received his B.A. in philosophy and communications from JCU in 2000; M.Ed. in Teaching in 2005 and Ph.D. in Educational Foundations in 2013 from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Dr. Miller currently is the director of teacher education and professional development at a new academy, The University of Hawaii Uehiro Academy for Philosophy and Ethics in Education, and was named 2012 Hawaii State Teacher of the Year.
Dr. Maryann Mraz received her B.A. in communications in 1985 and M.Ed. through the School-based program in 1989 from JCU; Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction – Literacy from Kent State University. Dr. Mraz teaches at the University of North Carolina – Charlotte and is the director of the Ph.D. program in curriculum and instruction across two colleges (the College of Education and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences). Dr. Mraz is an expert in content area reading and literacy coaching.
