Best Selling Author Loung Ung coming to John Carroll

Best-selling author Loung Ung will be speaking on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at two times: 12 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Her first talk will be based around her book First They Killed My Father. This talk is a moving rendition of the peril she lived when just six years old during the Pol Pot regime during the late 1970’s. She speaks of her parents sacrifice, the loss of siblings, and the healing process she encounters…This talk will take place also on on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. in Kulas Auditorium in the Administration Building.

In the evening she will be part of a panel of adults that talk about “Being Different” while going to college and entering the American workforce as a minority. This talked is based around her second book – Lucky Child. These issues still confront in today‘s world and are an important tool in the discussion of Social Justice in America…This talk will take place also on on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. in Marinello Little Theater in the Lombardo Student Center.

Both talks are open to the John Carroll Community and are made possible through a generous donation of the Mandel Foundation Grant, the Center for Student Diversity and Inclusion, and First Year Seminar.
