Faculty and staff: please join the Honors Program Director and Committee for two conversations next week about the new Honors Pathway through the Integrative Curriculum. Your input is sought on two important questions:
1) The future of the “H” course designation in the new Integrative Curriculum, and
2) The Senior Honors Project and Capstones in the Major.
Each discussion will begin with a brief review of the existing Honors Program curriculum, followed by a presentation of the (work-in-progress) Honors Pathway through the Integrative Core.
1) The “H” Course in the Honors Pathway
Wednesday, April 22 at 3:30 p.m.
(immediately following the General Faculty Meeting)
O’Connell Reading Room
Topics for discussion will include:
– Should the “H” designation on open-enrollment courses continue in the new curriculum? If so, which ones?
– If we maintain “H” courses, what learning outcomes from the Honors Program should they seek to fulfill? How can we ensure that “H” courses are distinctly Honors?
– Should all Honors classes be restricted to Honors Program members, or should some be open to non-Honors students?
– What other challenges of “H” courses should be addressed in a new curriculum?
– Your thoughts and insights.
2) The Senior Honors Project and Capstones in the Major
Friday, April 24 at 2:00 p.m.
Faculty Lounge
Topics for discussion will include:
• How can we align the SHP most effectively with major capstones?
• How can we prepare students best for SHPs in all major fields?
• What resources must we leverage to facilitate this process?
• What other challenges of the Senior Honors Project should be addressed in a new curriculum?
• Your thoughts and insights.
