The Center for Service and Social Action is in need of a volunteer to sew fleece “pillow sleeves” in support of a summer orientation service project for incoming JCU freshmen and their families. Construction is very simple: cut the fleece to size and sew a single seam (fleece fabric is provided). The pillows are completed by incoming students and their families during Summer Orientations (they stuff the pillows with batting and cut and tie the ends) and then donated to the Malachi House, a local hospice facility, where they are used to relieve painful pressure points in bed-ridden patients.
The pillow sleeves are needed by Monday, July 6. In total there should be fewer than 40 seams to sew – perhaps a 20 minute project for an experienced sewer. Perfect for the holiday weekend!
If you are interested in assisting with this project, please email service@jcu.edu. Thank you!
