On Wednesday, November 4, at noon, we will provide lunch and an intriguing presentation from Mike Nichols and Faith Whitworth on Flipped Classrooms. Faith and Mike will present descriptions of, and their experiences with, flipping the general chemistry lab and organic chemistry lecture courses. In ‘flipped’ classrooms content traditionally delivered inside the classroom (often by lecture) is delivered outside the classroom (often via videos hosted online). Class time, in turn, is dedicated to problem-solving of the sort typically associated with homework. Faith and Mike will discuss some preliminary data and observations about how implementing this pedagogy affects student learning and outcomes. Please R.S.V.P. to Patricia Hoffman (phoffman@jcu.edu).
