Do you have any poetry you’ve been itching to present to an audience? Do you love pizza? What about listening to poetry? You’re in luck! The English Club is sponsoring a student poetry reading and slam contest in the Reading Room in Donahue (note: the location has changed) starting at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 28. The event will begin with a general reading consisting of students’ own pieces, followed by a poetry slam contest–the winner of which will receive a few prizes (plus bragging rights, of course). After these student readings, Ray McNiece–an expert slam poet and a professor in JCU’s English department–will present his own work. There will be pizza available, and this event is open to all JCU students–both for participation and for viewing. If you’re interested in signing up for the general reading and/or the slam contest, or would like further information concerning the event, contact the English Club at EnglishClubJCU@gmail.com.
