The University’s Sustainability Committee is expanding our current battery recycling program to include everyone on campus. We invite your participation and support in this effort.
Labeled containers to receive dead batteries will be placed around campus at convenient locations. We invite any staff or department who wish to ‘host’ a recycling bucket to contact the Sustainability Committee to participate.
In keeping with our mission, the University Sustainability Committee seeks to identify opportunities to lessen our carbon footprint and show good stewardship for God’s creation. By diverting batteries from landfills, we are decreasing the risk of groundwater contamination from heavy metals found in some batteries. Our recycling efforts put useful materials back into the economy where they may serve production of new products.
If you are interested in learning more about the program, please contact sustainability@jcu.edu or Jeff Your at 216.397.4244.
