Help Wanted: Service Project for Migrants

Peggy Finucane has asked the JCU community to knit or crochet hats and scarves for migrants crossing the border at Nogales, Arizona. She spent a week at the US-Mexico border over Christmas break working with the Kino Border Initiative (KBI, a Jesuit collaborative ministry. One of their areas of ministry is to work with people who have been deported to help them return home. They greet them as they are deposited in Mexico, feed them, provide clothing, bus tickets, help replace papers that have been lost or stolen, etc.

While Peggy was there, the temperatures were 20-25 degrees at night. Many arrived at the border in t-shirts and flip-flops. KBI said they just don’t have hats and scarves to distribute when the temperature drops in winter. Please help knitting some scarves and hats to send to KBI for next winter. They need mostly men’s items, some women’s, and a few children’s.

Peggy has provided funds for yarn, which can be picked up from Cathy Anson in the Office of Sponsored Research, AD-250A, extension 4520. Cathy has provided some simple crochet and knit patterns for scarves, but you are welcome to use your favorite pattern.
