Beyond Chief Wahoo: Advancing Tribal Sovereignty Today (Through Arts and Education)

Craig Howe, the founder and director of CAIRNS (Center for American Indian Research and Native Studies) and member of the Oglala Nation, Pine Ridge, South Dakota, will be delivering a talk on Monday, November 7, at 7 p.m. in AD 249, called “Advancing Tribal Sovereignty Today (Through Arts & Education).” In a time when Native American rights are being attacked at Standing Rock, and representations of Native peoples are caricatured by images like Chief Wahoo, Howe’s work highlights the vital cultural heritage and political life of indigenous Americans. Sponsored by the Peace, Justice and Human Rights Program; the Center for Student Diversity and Inclusion; and Campus Ministry.
