Jorge Caballero, a native of Lima, Peru, is the only guitarist to win the Naumburg International Competition Award, one of the most coveted awards given to performers of any instrument. He is known for his performances of “impossible” solo guitar works, such as Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition and Dvorak’s New World Symphony. A Cleveland debut. At 7 p.m., as a pre-concert presentation, Philip Metres, Ph.D., poet and John Carroll University professor, will read from his recent collection based on Pictures at an Exhibition. Philip’s long list of awards include two National Endowment of the Arts Fellowships, two Arab American Book Awards, six Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellence Awards, the prestigious Cleveland Arts Prize, and much more. This pre-concert event is presented in collaboration with John Carroll University.

Cleveland Classical Guitar Society is currently in residence at John Carroll University. Keep your eye out for future event postings, each containing coupon codes for JCU students and faculty/staff (savings of 50% or more!).
