Today: History Film Series, Fall 2016

Please join us for this week’s offering in the History Film Series, “Apocalypse Now.” Directed by Francis Ford Coppola, “Apocalypse Now” (1979), is perhaps the most powerful Vietnam War film ever made. Based on Joseph Conrad’s novella Heart of Darkness (1899), the movie recounts the mission of Captain Benjamin Willard (Martin Sheen) to travel up the Mekong River to assassinate Colonel Walter Kurtz (Marlon Brando), who has gone mad and established his own independent fiefdom in Cambodia, threatening the American war effort. The film was nominated in eight categories for the Academy Awards and won in two. In 2012, the British Film Institute voted the movie the 14th best ever made. 153 minutes.
