Federal Judge Halts New FLSA Overtime Rule

Late on November 22, a federal judge issued a preliminary injunction halting the December 1st implementation of the proposed Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) “Overtime Rule.” As a result of this injunction, the current FLSA rules remain in place, and the University’s plans to comply with the proposed “Overtime Rule” have been put on hold. As of late yesterday, all employees that would have been affected by the new rule have been individually notified of this “on hold” status.

All employees who were scheduled to move from an exempt to non-exempt status effective December 1 will now remain exempt until the injunction is lifted or otherwise resolved by the courts or the federal government. We will continue to closely monitor this issue, and provide appropriate updates as they become available. If you have any immediate questions, please contact your Human Resources Representative.
