Students, faculty, and staff are invited to join the Tim Russert Department of Communication and Theatre Arts for a performance of an excerpt from the John Carroll University spring play Vanya & Sonia & Masha & Spike, by Christopher Durang.
As part of the campus-wide Celebration of Scholarship, this performance tells the story of Vanya and Sonia, brother and sister, who feel unable to cope with life. They still live in their childhood home surrounded by a cherry orchard in Bucks County, PA. Their lives are disrupted when Masha, their flamboyant sister, comes home with her boyfriend Spike. Masha is sick of supporting her reclusive siblings and wants to make money selling off their house. Yet Vanya and Sonia have something Masha doesn’t have: the sympathy of their clairvoyant housekeeper Cassandra. Can Masha be convinced to let Vanya and Sonia stay put? Will Vanya and Sonia find love and happiness? And who will wear what to that crazy costume party? A comedy with a heart from a great contemporary playwright.
This performance is Monday, April 3 at noon in the O’Malley Center Atrium. RSVP to Russertinterns@jcu.edu by March 31 to reserve a spot in the audience.
