The Tim Russert Department of Communication and Theatre Arts presents “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike” by Christopher Durang, which continues this weekend, April 7 and 8, at 7:30 p.m. and April 9, at 2 p.m. in Kulas Auditorium.
This comedy won the Tony Award for Best Play and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Play in 2013. Vanya and Sonia are brother and sister who feel unable to cope with life. They still live in their childhood home surrounded by a cherry orchard in Bucks County, PA. Their lives are disrupted when Masha, their flamboyant sister, comes home with her boyfriend Spike. Masha is sick of supporting her reclusive siblings and wants to make money selling off their house. Yet Vanya and Sonia have something Masha doesn’t have: the sympathy of their clairvoyant housekeeper Cassandra. Can Masha be convinced to let Vanya and Sonia stay put? Will Vanya and Sonia find love and happiness? And who will wear what to that crazy costume party? A comedy with a heart from a great contemporary playwright. Some mild mature content.
