Today: HR Training Series: Legal Update for Supervisors

Supervisory employees are encouraged to attend the training program on “Current Legal Issues that Impact Supervisors.” The training will take place on Wednesday, April 12, from 9–10:30 a.m. in the Jardine Room.

Participants will be provided with information on current legal issues that affect supervisors and the effective management of employees in their area. The session will provide an overview of several relevant laws and issues, including:

  • Health, leave and disability records and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), and other disability issues;
  • Legal hiring dos and don’ts;
  • Background check process requirements;
  • Hiring of foreign nationals and immigration process requirements;
  • Confidentiality of information and attorney-client privileged communications; and
  • Non-retaliation legal obligations.

The goal of the session is to provide a high-level review of key legal concepts and a practical application of these issues for supervisors using scenarios and discussion. Supervisors will have an opportunity to ask questions on these key topics.

Trainers for this program will be Colleen Treml, General Counsel; Kenneth Danton, Assistant General Counsel; and Alex Teodosio, Human Resources. Please register to attend on the HR webpage at the following location: http://sites.jcu.edu/hr/pages/all-employees/training/hr-training-series/.
