Crocheters and Knitters Needed for 2nd Annual Service Project

Crocheters and knitters needed for the 2nd annual service project that supports the Kino Border Initiative (KBI), a Jesuit collaborative ministry.

Peggy Finucane, who has worked with KBI, has asked the JCU community to knit or crochet hats for migrants crossing the border at Nogales, Arizona. At Nogales, the ministry provides support and services to people trying to return home after having been deported. As these individuals are deposited in Mexico, KBI workers feed them, provide clothing, bus tickets, help them replace lost or stolen papers, etc.

During the winter months temperatures drop to 20-25 degrees. Most of the deportees arrive at the border in t-shirts and flip-flops. KBI does not have enough hats to distribute when the temperatures drop in the winter. Please help by knitting or crocheting hats to send to KBI for next winter. They mostly need men’s hats, some women’s, and a few children’s. Yarn is provided.
