The 2019 Woelfl Seminar in Public Policy | “Building Climate and Energy Resilience: Opportunities and Challenges”

The Department of Political Science is proud to announce the 2019 Woelfl Seminar in Public Policy.

Join us on Wednesday, March 13 from 3 PM to 5 PM in the Jardine Room for “Building Climate and Energy Resilience: Opportunities and Challenges,” a panel discussion with Dr. Kuhika Gupta and Dr. Joe Ripberger. Our own department’s Dr. Colin Swearingen will help facilitate the discussion.

Dr. Kuhika Gupta is a Research Scientist at the Center for Risk and Crisis Management and the Center for Energy, Security and Society at the University of Oklahoma. Her research focuses on public perceptions about energy policy, particularly focusing on nuclear energy as well as the social, political, and institutional factors that influence nuclear facility siting from a global comparative perspective.

Dr. Joe Ripberger is an Assistant Professor of Political Science, an Associate Director at the National Institute for Risk & Resilience, and the Deputy Director for Research at the Center for Risk and Crisis Management at the University of Oklahoma. He researches climate variability and human adaptation in Oklahoma; social responses to changes in complex river systems; and a systematic assessment of the watch, warning, and advisory system in the United States.

Dr. Gupta and Dr. Ripberger will discuss their ideas on energy policy; the different groups battling for issue supremacy; how local communities can influence our climate change solutions; and what makes addressing climate change politically difficult.
