2019 Mitsui Distinguished Lecture: Susan Napier
The 2019 installment of the annual Mitsui Distinguished Lecture Series will feature Dr. Susan Napier presenting World Building: The Utopian Dreams and Apocalyptic Nightmares of Hayao Miyazaki. Napier is a professor of Japanese Studies at Tufts University and the author of Anime from Akira to Howl’s Moving Castle and the newly released Miyazakiworld: A Life in Art, which explores the life and art of this extraordinary Japanese filmmaker. Her research explores the implications of anime on cultural, personal, and gender identity. Dr. Napier has authored numerous articles on Japanese media.
