Please take time on Thursday to drop by St. Francis Chapel to pray or observe a few moments of silence for the victims of the shooting at an elementary school in the Green Hills neighborhood of Nashville, Tennessee. It’s at times like these that we turn to prayer in an attempt to make sense out of senseless violence.
Pray for solace and healing for the families, friends and the community of Green Hills.
Pray for the wisdom and discernment of our political leaders in making decisions that prioritize the safety and well-being of our communities, that they will act with the utmost responsibility and care.
Pray for an end to these occurrences that seem to happen all too frequently and pray especially for the Pre-K through 6th grade children who will forever be shaken by this day.
We invite you to stop into St. Francis Chapel any time on Thursday to light a candle on the steps of the sanctuary and offer your own prayer for those whose lives have been affected by gun violence.
Let us pray…
God, our hearts are broken with pain at the senseless deaths of the most recent victims in Nashville. Families mourn and children live in fear. We ask that you touch our hearts with your love, heal our brokenness, and turn us away from violence toward peace.
Help us to transform our own hearts and to seek peaceful ways of resolving our differences. Let our hands reach out and connect with those who feel alone, those who live in fear, and those suffering from mental illness. Let our voices be raised to protect all in our society, especially those most vulnerable. We ask this in the name of the God who desires that we live together in peace. Amen
