We are launching a unique prison entrepreneurship program in Spring 2024. We are looking for ~20 students to pilot the program with us. Register your interest at https://forms.gle/
We will meet once evening per week from 6:30-9:15 during the spring semester (this will be a 3-credit course). For 10 of those weeks, we will meet at Grafton Correctional Institution with 10 incarcerated men chosen by a panel of entrepreneurs and investors.
Two JCU students will work with each incarcerated man to understand their interests and skills, and to help set up a side hustle around those so that when he is released he might have a means of income. We will use an award-winning curriculum developed by our entrepreneurship program leader Doan Winkel.
The main goals of the program are:
Enhance your entrepreneurial skills by working to start businesses on behalf of these men (we will have no ownership)
Provide a sense of purpose for these men to focus on while incarcerated, and once released
Provide a source of income for these men upon their release to help reduce the likelihood of their returning to prison
Benefits to you are:
A unique program to put on your resume to differentiate you in job interviews
Enhance your entrepreneurial skills by working to start a business
Make a significant impact on these men’s current and future daily life
