The Center for Career Services offers Handshake as a convenience to job seeking students and alumni. Job seekers must use their judgment when applying, interviewing and accepting positions. While Handshake has processes in place to monitor the network for fraud, no system is foolproof and students should still be mindful of scams that target students. Signs of potential scams include:
-Requests for personal information such as bank account information or social security number
-Requests for payment over the phone using a gift card.
-Pressure to act immediately.
-Having to send your own money as part of a job.
-Overpayment, such as a check made out for a higher-than-expected amount.
-Offer of employment made without an interview
