Doing an Immersion in Spring to a Spanish-Speaking Country? Want to Boost Your Spanish?

If you answered yes to both of those questions, take “SP 1100: Mini-Course in Spanish for Immersions” in spring 2025!

This 1-credit course is offered the first and second seven weeks of the semester (Thursdays, 5.00-6.50pm/ Instructor: Michael Khoury). SP 1100 prepares students with limited Spanish to navigate key aspects of daily life prior to their immersion to a Spanish-speaking location. The primary focus is on the acquisition of essential structures and high-frequency vocabulary. Approximately one-third of the course focuses on developing learners’ awareness of relevant cultural practices such as general politeness, common social norms and practices, and enhancing their intercultural competence. SP 1100 counts toward the minor in Spanish and Hispanic Studies. SP 1100 does not fulfill the language requirement at JCU. Questions? Contact Dr. Karolle-Berg (jkarolle@jcu.edu).
