The Bediüzzaman Said Nursi Chair in Islamic Studies presents the 8th Annual Week of Islamic Art and Culture from March 23-26. All events will take place in the Donahue Auditorium of the Dolan Science Center unless otherwise noted.
Monday, March 23 at 7:30 p.m. Archbishop Michael Fitzgerald, the 2015 Tuohy Chair Fellow in conjunction with the 2015 Tuohy Chair Lecture Series. “In the Name of the Merciful God of Mercy.”
Tuesday, March 24 at 7 p.m. The Voice of Anatolia will perform Sufi & Turkish Music.
Wednesday, March 25 at 12:30 p.m., Mrs. Tulin Olgun will give a demonstration of the traditional Islamic art of marbling or ebru. The demonstration will take place in the Dolan Science Center Atrium. At 7 p.m. there will be a showing of the film Turkish Passport. The story of Turkish diplomats who saved numerous Jews during the Second World War.
Thursday, March 26 at 7 p.m. John Voll, Ph.D., Professor of Islamic History and Associate Director of the Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding, Georgetown University will give a talk titled “Populist Islam in the 21st Century: Pop music, Televangelism, and Faith”
