How do you live JCU’s mission?
Samantha Cocco, Assistant Director of the Center for Service and Social Action, shares this reflection:
In 2014, I was fortunate to accompany 12 students to Ecuador, and six months later, to spend the weekend with 51 students on the Manresa retreat. I first encountered both Ecuador and Manresa as a JCU student, so being able to reconnect with these experiences six years later, and to do so surrounded by students who I admire and have grown to love, was an indescribable gift. It was absolutely beautiful to witness these groups of students form community and strengthen their faiths. I believe both of these encounters grew from my willingness to say not only ‘YES’ but ‘YES, AND’ when presented with opportunities. I challenge myself daily by responding in this way, opening my heart to people who help me grow and love more fully.
