The Sociology and Criminology Department at John Carroll University are very excited about this year’s Geller Lecture speaker, Dr. Jason De Leon, an Anthropologist from the University of Michigan. Dr. De Leon is an academic rising star in his field and has gained national attention for his work as the director of the Undocumented Migration Project (UMP). His work focuses on studying border crossings along the U.S. and Mexican border and the southern border of Mexico and Guatemala, using ethnographic, archaeological, and forensic approaches. His multidisciplinary approach to studying the immigration crisis earned him a 2013 Emerging Explorer Award from the National Geographic Society. This prestigious award is given to truly exceptional scholars each year who are working to understand our social world. Dr. DeLeon will be talking about the research his center has uncovered regarding border crossings.
