On Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at 7:30pm Grammy-winning classical guitarist Jason Vieaux and Grammy-winning mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke team up for a performance co-presented by Cleveland Classical Guitar Society and Cleveland Chamber Music Society at Plymouth Church of Shaker Heights. This concert is the final event of Cleveland Classical Guitar Society’s 2017-2018 International Series.
Together, the duo will music of Spain and the United States, including de Falla’s Siete canciones populares españolas; selections from Granados’ 12 Tonadillas al estilo antiguo, H.13 (“El tra-la-là y el punteado,” “El mirar de la maja,” “El majo discrete”); as well as American selections from Copland’s Old American Songs (“Simple Gifts,” “The Little Horses,” “At the River,” “Ching-A-Ring Chaw”); and three songs by Bernstein including “Who am I” from Peter Pan, “Somewhere” from West Side Story, and “Conga” from Wonderful Town. Vieaux will also perform solo guitar works, including Albéniz’ Rumores De la Caleta and Torre Bermeja; Tárrega’s Capricho Arabe; and Metheny’s Always and Forever.
