Tuohy Lecture: Archbischop Michael Fitzgerald “Christians in the Arab World”

Thursday, October 18, 7:30 p.m.
JCU Dolan Science Center, Donahue Auditorium

The Situation of Christians in the Arab World: How Interreligious Dialogue Can Help
This lecture will present a survey, country by country, of the Christian presence in the Arab World and the difficulties that Christians face. Note will be taken of the difference that exists when the Christian communities are made up of expatriates and when they are indigenous. Additionally, the talk will attempt to answer the question: What can interreligious dialogue do to improve the situation of Christians in this region?

Archbishop Fitzgerald is author of several books, including Signs of Dialogue: Christian Encounter with Muslims (1992, with R. Caspar); Dieu rêve d’unité. Les catholiques et les religions: les leçons du dialogue. Entretiens avec Annie Laurent (2005); Interfaith Dialogue. A Catholic View (2006, with John Borelli), and of numerous articles in Concilium, Islamochristiana, Pro Dialogo, Gregorianum, Origins, and many other venues. His recent volume Praise the Name of the Lord: Meditations on the Names of God in the Qur’an and the Bible (Collegeville, MN: Liturgical Press, 2017) is a compilation and expansion of his spring 2015 Tuohy lecture series, “Praise the Name of the Lord: Meditations on the Most Beautiful Names of God.”

Presented by the Tuohy Chair of Interreligious Studies and the Institute for Catholic Studies.
