Cybersecurity Announcement: Facebook Stored Passwords in Plain Text for Years

You may have read the recent news that Facebook stored passwords for hundreds of millions of users in plain text (Not Securely Stored), exposing them for years to anyone who had internal access to the files, according to Krebs on Security (https://krebsonsecurity.com/2019/03/facebook-stored-hundreds-of-millions-of-user-passwords-in-plain-text-for-years/).

According to Facebook, there’s no evidence that plain text passwords were exposed outside of the company or that they were abused internally. As a result, users won’t be required to reset their passwords.

At John Carroll University (JCU), cybersecurity is very important to us. We would highly recommend that you change your password if you are using your Facebook password on any JCU or bank accounts.

As always, please feel free to contact the ITS Service Desk at x3005 with any questions or concerns you may have.
