Continue reading this storyThomas Kelly, Ph.D., of Creighton University, will discuss his book “When the Gospel Grows Feet: Rutilio Grande S.J. and the Church of El Salvador” on Thursday, March 27, at 7 p.m. in the Jardine Room. Rev. Rutilio Grande, S.J., was assassinated by the Salvadoran military in 1977 due to his work for the poor which challenged the power structures in El Salvador. His death transformed Archbishop Oscar Romero and encouraged the Archbishop to become a passionate voice for the oppressed and marginalized people in El Salvador, actions which subsequently lead to his own assassination three years later.
