Today: The Sinking of the U.S.S. Indianapolis

The sinking of the U.S.S. Indianapolis on July 29, 1945, was the Navy’s worst disaster at sea of the Second World War. Of the more than 800 sailors that went into the water after the Japanese torpedoes struck, only 317 survived the five-day ordeal. World War II veteran and Indianapolis survivor Dick Thelen will recount his service experiences on Wednesday, November 16, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the LSC Conference Room.

HR Training Series: Mental Health First Aid Training

This training is an eight-hour course, over two days, that provides certification and teaches attendees how to help someone who is experiencing the early warning signs of mental illness and substance use problems, as well as how to intervene in crisis situations such as risk of suicide or overdose. It will take place on December 13 and 14, from 1-5 p.m. in the Jardine Room. Get registration information here.
