Re: President’s Welcome and Reminders
I hope over the summer you found time to relax and rejuvenate. My break offered the opportunity to reflect and recharge for the busy semester ahead. I look forward to sharing my priorities for John Carroll for this academic year and our road ahead at several upcoming events.
Our Academic Convocation will take place in Kulas Auditorium Friday, August 30, from 11 to 11:45 a.m. As we welcome the Class of 2017, your presence in full academic regalia will go a long way to create the backdrop necessary to help our newest students embark upon their John Carroll journeys.
Later that same day, at 3:30 p.m., we will convene our University Convocation in Donahue Auditorium. I want to share with you strategic priorities that position JCU for a strong future, and I look forward to seeing you there.
I would like to remind you that on September 12 at noon we will celebrate Mass of the Holy Spirit at Gesu Church. The Mass is open to all faiths and is a tradition celebrated at Jesuit colleges and universities around the world. Your presence is greatly encouraged as it would send a powerful and unifying message to the student body. I am delighted to share that Jayme Stayer, S.J., who was recently ordained and is returning to our English Department, will be the homilist. Homecoming and Family Weekend will also quickly be upon us September 27-29. I hope you will make time in your schedules to celebrate in some of these exciting fall activities that bring generations of JCU alumni and friends together.
This time of year can be exceptionally busy—please take a moment in the midst of your hurried back-to-school to do lists to enjoy and appreciate what is important and the wonderful work you have been called to do. One by one, you are transforming the lives of students that go forward and leave their imprint on humanity. What a magnificent calling to fulfill.
