Today: JCU’s Remembrance Day National Roll Call: 11-11-11

The 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month, of the 11th year— what will you do to honor the fallen on 11-11-11? JCU will be holding a Remembrance Day National Roll Call on Friday, November 11, beginning at 9 a.m. on the steps outside Saint Francis Chapel.

This year Veterans Day, or Remembrance Day as it was originally called, will mark the 10th year of post 9-11 combat. To date 6,243 U.S. service members have died in two major theaters of operation – Iraq and Afghanistan (as of 9/15/2011).

The Remembrance Day National Roll Call event will be held on 11-11-11, a once in a century date. The objective is to have a synchronized reading of all the names of the Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom casualties with all participating schools observing a pause at 11 a.m. PST to observe a simultaneous “minute of silence.”

What a powerful message to send to the troops who are serving…to have their peers honor their sacrifices by taking time to individually name the fallen. There are currently 169 schools from all 50 states plus the District of Columbia have pledged to participate.
