There will be a Maronite Rite Mass on campus next Thursday, Dec. 6, the feast of Saint Nicholas. The presider will be Rev. Tony Massad, associate pastor of Saint Maron Church of Cleveland. The Mass will be in Saint Francis Chapel at 5:05 pm. There will be no regular 5:05 p.m. Mass that day.
This Mass will have some responses in Syriac (a dilalect of Aramaic). The following is a quote from the Archdiocese of Washington about the Maronite Church: “Among the Eastern Catholic Churches is the Maronite Catholic Church. It is rooted in Lebanon but its members are now all over the world. This Church is in union with Rome and the Holy Father but has its own Maronite Liturgy conducted in both the vernacular (Syriac in the Cleveland church) and Aramaic, the language of Jesus himself.”
