Black Poetic is Life! Conceived in 1994 by Douglas Hoston while attending Cleveland State University, the performance poetry troupe began out of a need for vanguard youth to have an outlet and venue to express and witness performance poetry that mirrored their social needs. Black Poetic has been a touring troupe of five-22 members gracing stages of universities, community centers, schools and theaters.
The Dr. Shirley S. Seaton Cultural Awareness Series is an invitation to an exploration of cultural differences and cultural issues of concern. All events aim to illuminate various cultural perspectives and deepen understandings of ways in which we are all diverse yet interconnected.
