On Tuesday, March 17 at 3:30 p.m., please join your colleagues, Dan Kilbride, Peter Kvidera, John McBratney, Dianna Taylor, and Martha Pereszlenyi-Pinter over some light refreshments for a lively conversation about advising for the liberal arts.
Advising should be more than helping students pick courses to satisfy college requirements (more than “alphabet soup”). Ideally, an advisor helps a student think more largely about their future life and career. What awaits them upon graduation? Addressing this topic is particularly vexed for students who are not enrolled in a pre-professional major. What are the practical benefits of a liberal arts degree? This workshop will help equip faculty, particularly faculty in the Humanities, to address these topics in advising conversations.
Please RSVP to Natalie Robinson, nrobinson@jcu.edu, by March 10 if you can join us. This workshop is open to all faculty, but we will particularly target advising for the Humanities this time.
