Today: Workshop: Course-Level Assessment – Rubrics for Assignments

Assessment at the level of the individual course involves establishing what students should know and be able to do by the end of the course; providing opportunities for students to learn; and through the use of tests and assignments, evaluating to what degree students were successful in meeting the goals the instructor established. This workshop will focus on assignments. Each participant should bring an assignment (or an idea for one) and the syllabus for the course from which it’s taken. We will briefly discuss characteristics that make assignments useful for assessing student learning at the course-level (and beyond), and participants will have an opportunity to provide feedback to each other about the design of their assignments. We will then discuss best practices for rubric design, and participants will be guided in the construction of their rubrics. For participants who desire it, individualized feedback on the rubrics that participants design will be provided. This workshop was previously offered in spring 2015.

Two sessions will be offered: Monday, October 12 from 3:30-5:00 p.m. and Tuesday, October 13 from 2:00-3:30 p.m. Both sessions will be held in the College of Arts & Sciences conference room. For more information contact the History Department at extension 4366.
