Fear to Freedom – Volunteer Opportunity
The Violence Prevention and Action Center is looking for students who would like to volunteer at Hillcrest Hospital. We will be assembling after-care kits that the hospital can give each patient who comes in for a SANE exam (Sexual Assault Nurse Exam). The kits include toiletries, a change of new clothes, toys for children, journals for adults, resources, and a hand-written note from the volunteers who participate. Most of the time is spent assembling the kits, but there is also a small educational piece in which students will hear from the staff about sexual assault and SANE exams. The volunteer opportunity is Friday, March 24. We will leave campus at 3:30 p.m. and return at 6:30 p.m. If you would like to participate, please contact acottrell@jcu.edu by March 1.
