Today: Chemistry Program Changes

The Chemistry Department has made several changes to the program. We believe these changes will be better for our students.

The names of the Chemistry concentrations have changed:
The General Concentration is now a B.S. in Chemistry
The Comprehensive Concentration is now a Concentration in Chemical Physics
The Concentration in Biochemistry is the same
Therefore, all Chemistry students follow the requirements for a B.S. in Chemistry. They may choose to add a concentration of either Biochemistry or Chemical Physics, but it is not required.

The requirements of a Minor in Chemistry have changed:
It is now easier for students in other programs to obtain a minor in Chemistry. See the requirements here: http://sites.jcu.edu/chemistry/pages/programs-of-study/minor-and-other-programs/chemistry-minor/

The scheduling of Biochemistry courses has changed:
CH 435 and CH 436 will now be offered in sequential Fall-Spring semesters to allow for students to complete the year-long biochemistry sequence prior to the end of their junior year and before they take the MCAT, DAT, PCAT, etc. CH 431 will still be offered only in the spring semester. For the 2017-2018 academic year, CH 435 and CH 436 is offered in fall and CH 436 and CH 431 will be offered in spring. Beginning with the 2018-2019 academic year, CH 435 will be offered in the fall and CH 436 and CH 431 will be offered in the spring.
