The Department of Political Science is happy to welcome guest speaker Patrick Holtz for an evening with faculty, students, and alumni. Mr. Holtz will lead our evening’s discussion with his talk, “‘Running the Traps’: Lobbying and Federal Marketing in Washington, D.C.,” on how to have a successful career in politics.
A reception with snacks and drinks will follow a brief Q&A.
The reception will be an opportunity for alumni to reconnect with their Alma Mater as well as to meet our new students. As for the students, the reception will be an opportunity for professional development alongside our alumni.

Patrick Holtz currently manages public policy and government relations at the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA), the regional planning authority for Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, and Medina counties.
Mr. Holtz’s professional life in government and politics has spanned almost 20 years. He began as a campaign staffer to former U.S. Representaive Steven C. LaTourette (R-OH). Holtz then served as the Washington Representative to the American Motorcyclists Association, the largest motorcycling rights organization in the country. He then worked as Director of Government Relations and Legislative Counsel at Van Scoyoc Associates (VSA), the largest independent lobbying firm in Washington D.C. At VSA, Holtz’s infrastructure clients included among others the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the Dallas Area Rapid Transit, and the Colorado Department of Transportation. Thereafter Holtz was hired to open and manage the Washington D.C. office for Bentley Systems, a software company which provides technology solutions for infrastructure. While at Bentley Systems, Holtz was selected by his technology peers to be the Policy Council Chair to the Business Software Alliance, a leading technology trade association on Capitol Hill.
Holtz holds a B.A. in Government & Politics from George Mason University and a J.D. from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law.
