Within the Integrative Core Curriculum, students are required to do writing in all Linked, Engaging the Global Community (EGC), and Additional Writing (AW) classes. In addition, a wide array of courses within our majors have significant writing components. Most faculty here are, in fact, writing teachers. But what do we know about the 1st writing classes (EN 120/121 or EN 125) that students take here at JCU? How can we learn to receive the baton from EN 125 instructors, helping our students progress further on their developmental journey as writers?
This session (3/27 at noon) will aim to answer these questions. Faculty who teach our introductory writing classes will describe their major goals and lessons. In addition, we will provide some 125 assessment data, so we can see where students are stronger and weaker as they enter and leave these classes. Such information should be invaluable as you welcome these students, in turn, into your writing intensive classes.
This session will be the 1st in an ongoing series of monthly Writing lunches. The aim of each will be to share insights and ideas about how to make our students better writers.
