Today: Biology Meet Your Major: Kahoot! and Fan Mashup

So much of the weirdness about this year is that you have not been able to interact in person with either your professors or other students. We are all frustrated by not being to have those real-life connections. Although we can’t change the reality of this virtual semester, we can work to make the best of it. With that in mind, we are inviting all of you to attend the Fall 2020 Biology Meet Your Major (MYM) event on Thursday 29 October from 6:00-7:00 pm.

This year’s MYM is purely social-this is an opportunity to get together with other Bio majors. This will be a Zoom event with two components:

First, we’ll host a fun Kahoot! Trivia night starting at 6:00 pm. We will host the Kahoot on Zoom with a live moderator, but everyone will play on their phone/laptop. If you would like to join us, please download the Kahoot App ahead of time. We will share our Kahoot with everyone during the event on the 29th. We’ll also have some legit prizes for the top scores: first prize will be some AirPods, and second-and third-place winners will each receive a $50 Amazon gift card.

Second, we are commissioning some fan art mashups. Take a poster or screenshot from your favorite movie, show, or video, and mash it up with a headshot from one of your Bio professors-be fun, be creative, but keep it clean! We will make a gallery of the submissions to show on the 29th, and hold a vote for the department favorite. We’ll have a prize for the top submission as well. You can get headshots from the faculty and staff directory. If you want to submit a mashup, please send it to Dr. Watling (jwatling@jcu.edu) by Wednesday night (28 Oct).
